STATEMENT Photography has the capability to simplify, scrutinize, transform, and abstract the complexity of the everyday. Central to my work is the description of the immediate experience. I seek out moments and gestures that are unpredictable, quick, insignificant, and fleeting. My photographs become evidence of what I saw: of time, of space. Edited together, abstract relationships are constructed; and what confronts the viewer is a dialectic of stark imagery that is unsettling yet mundane. BIOGRAPHY Whitney Hubbs was born in Los Angeles in 1977. In 2005 she graduated from the California College of the Arts with a BFA in photography. In June of 2009, she will receive her MFA from UCLA. Her work consists of medium format black and white photographs. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
